ICAR-CPCRI, Kayamkulam conducted ASPIRE-2016 programme


Sensitizing the scope of and importance of agricultural sciences among Plus2 students, a one-day course under the ambit of ICAR’s Agricultural Science Pursuit for Inspired Research Excellence (ASPIRE) was convened at ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam on 27-05-2016. The programme aimed at infusing farming instincts in young minds (IFIYM-2016) in tune with ICAR’s twin major initiatives of “Farmer First” and “Student Ready” was attended by forty-seven students around Kayamkulam.

The programme focused on inculcating scientific temper on farm science, imbibing science in farming, infusing better communication skills, farm education and employment generation, institutes of agricultural research, climate and climatic change, legends in farm research, wonderful world of diverse insects, beneficial and pathogenic microbes, chemistry of living processes, in vitro mass propagation techniques, flower aesthetics and gardening, and soil, the soul of infinite life. In addition to the systematic lectures on agricultural sciences, students were exposed to various experimental fields and laboratories in the schools of Genetics, Soil Science, Entomology and Pathology.

Smt. Rajini Jayadev, Block Panchayat President, Bharanikavu was the chief guest of the valedictory function. In her valedictory address, she motivated the student community to take up farm science as their career for meeting the ever growing future food demand in the country. In addition, she urged the students to perform farming in households to harness the glee of bio-happiness as it sharpens learning skills. Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head presided over the function and appealed the students to learn farm science with passion to tap the rising demand of youth power in farm science for transforming India into a developed nation. Later Smt. Rajini Jayadev and Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head of the Regional Station released the training manual christened as “Cognizance towards Farming” and “E-manual” (compact diskette) containing the lecture notes.

In the evaluation test conducted as a part of the programme, Kumari Abhirami, Master Ganesh and Kumari Aparnna Krishnan, Govt. HSS, Ramapuram emerged victorious and were awarded memento and certificates. All the participants were provided with a certificate of participation and a copy of the training manual. In the feedback session students expressed their eagerness and enthusiasm to pursue agriculture as a science and profession in their career.

Dr. A. Joseph Rajkumar, Principal Scientist (Ag. Entomology) and Dr. Merin Babu, Scientist (Plant Pathology) of the Regional Station functioned as course director and associate of the programme. Interested candidates can have a soft copy of the e-manual on demand.
