ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station convened Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan programme at Kayamkulam


ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station, Kayamkulam convened Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan programme as part of  Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav Farmer-Scientist interface on December 29th, 2017. About fifty farmers from seventeen adopted villages by the scientists participated in the programme. The theme for the year is “Doubling Farmers Income through Innovative Coconut Farming”. Dr. V. Krishnakumar, Head in his inaugural address stressed upon the importance of coconut as an ideal crop to double farmer’s income by accommodating crop-habitat diversification through system approach ensuring continuous income, employment and effective organic recycling. He further emphasized on the need of scientific approach in coconut farming to boost productivity and reduce the cost of production to accomplish sustainable income and doubling farmer’s income by 2022 coupled through de-risking farmers and be partners of New India Movement. An epilogue of salient accomplishments of Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav activities for the period 2016-2017 was released on the occasion as a pamphlet.  

Thematic technical sessions on varietal wealth, system productivity, pest and disease management and community approach in technology penetration were handled by scientists of the Regional Station. Based on the novel idea suggested by the participating farmers on doubling their income, prizes were distributed to Sri. Sreedhara Kurup and Sri K.G Ramesh. The farmers were taken around the experimental plots to get first hand information on the technological advancements in scientific coconut farming. In the feedback session, the farmers appreciated the efforts taken up the scientists of the ICAR-CPCRI, Regional Station in understanding their farming problems and offering practical solutions. The need for further penetration of technologies through regular field visits and display of model gardens was also highlighted. 

Dr. P. Anithakumari, Principal Scientist welcomed the gathering and Dr. A. Joseph Rajkumar, coordinator of the programme offered vote of thanks. Dr. Merin Babu and Dr. K.M. Anes, Scientists served as associates of the programme.
