Shri. Koran's achievements in integrating livestock production with cultivation of fodder grass in  coconut garden became a model for small and marginal coconut farmers under rainfed situation

  • Yield : 120 nuts/palm/year (Against the State average of  40 nuts/palm/year)

Adoption of soil and water conservation measures: Keeping thick mulch of farm wastes in the basin of coconut palms, application of sufficient quantity of organics are the reason for higher productivity of coconut

 

    Fodder grass cultivated in 0.2 ha between bearing palms

  • Var : Congo Signal - 300 t/ha

  • Var : Paragas and CO-3 - 150 t/ha

Additional income generated by selling fodder grass slips

 

    Livestock integration with coconut farming

  • Breed - Jersy (5 cows)

  • Milk yield: 10 lit/cow/day 

   Vermicompost unit - Provides for better onfarm recycling of organic wastes

  • Capacity - 5 tonnes

  • Substratum used : Coconut leaves and other farm waste
