Rural farm women with marginal land holding practicing coconut based farm system.  The potential for additional income/employment generation not known/utilized

 

 

 
  • Productivity  of coconut very low and fluctuating  price

  • Coconut with less than 25% of intercrops for family use

  Organised training programmes on coconut product diversification,  value addition and entrepreneurship development as off campus programmes

  Women groups were initiated and they were motivated to take up coconut product diversification as an income generating enterprise

  After training, technical support was provided to them for fine tuning the production/quality

  The groups started the enterprise with the produces such as virgin coconut oil, bakery products, chutney powder and uses small holders copra dryer

  Their entrepreneurship skills have to be further sharpened in case of marketing their produces

  The group is earning an average income of Rs. 2000-4000/month.  Furthermore, they could realize value addition of 120-170% of the raw nuts
